Vic; Prawn ban illustrates government inaction, says oppn
Victoria's opposition says a ban on prawn fishing in eastern Victoria, ordered becausean algal bloom was making them toxic, is an illustration of government inertia.
Prawn fishing was halted in the Gippsland Lakes yesterday after toxic prawns were discoveredfollowing an outbreak of poisonous blue-green algae.
The ban is a severe blow to fishermen as it comes in the middle of the January-to-Mayprawning season.
