Qld: Police misuse computer database, inquiry told

A Criminal Justice Commission investigation has uncovered gross misuse of the Queensland
Police computer data base.

Counsel assisting a CJC inquiry into misuse of the data base, RALPH DEVLIN, said in
one case police officers provided confidential information to a station cleaner.

Mr DEVLIN told the inquiry the information had in turn found its way into the hands
of a private investigator.

He said an investigation into the station, code named Operation Heron, had revealed
2741 suspect checks on the Queensland Police Service computer involving 564 people.

Mr DEVLIN said several files had been seized from the cleaner and private investigator.

He said investigations have revealed the cleaner worked part time for the private investigator.

The hearing continues next Monday
