Fed: National road toll reaches 47
SYDNEY, Dec 29 AAP - Motorcycle accidents in NSW and Queensland have pushed the national
holiday road toll to 47.
A motorcyclist died this morning when his machine crashed on an inner-Sydney street.
He was eastbound on Cleveland Street at Moore Park when his bike went out of control
at the South Dowling Street intersection around 4am (AEDT).
Yesterday, a 42-year-old motorcyclist died on the Pacific Highway on the NSW Central Coast.
Police said the man was killed when the motorbike hit a guardrail near Catherine Hill
Bay at 6.25pm (AEDT).
The deaths took the holiday road toll on NSW roads to 14.
In Queensland a 24-year-old motorcyclist died yesterday after his machine and a truck
collided at Mudgeeraba, in the Gold Coast hinterland at around 3pm (AEST).
His death pushed Queensland's holiday road toll to 10.
South Australia's road toll now stands at five, with the death of a 77-year-old Adelaide
man yesterday.
His car hit an electricity pole on Cross Road at Clarence Park, in Adelaide's south,
at about 10.30am (CDT).
The man, from the southern suburb of Panorama, died in the Royal Adelaide Hospital
at about 2pm (CDT).
In Victoria, 12 people have died in road accidents this holiday season, three in Western
Australia, one in Tasmania, and two in the Northern Territory.
The Australian Capital Territory remains fatality-free.
