Qld: Driver charged seven months after fatal smash

BRISBANE, April 5 AAP - Police today charged the driver of a car which crashed on route
to a rugby tournament in south-west Queensland last year, killing two passengers.

The 19-year-old from Garah, in NSW, was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle
causing death and grievous bodily harm in relation to the August 2006 crash.

There were five young men in the car when it left the Gore Highway and burst into flames
near Millmerran on the morning of August 19.

Carl James McNulty, 18, and Marcus Colin Macdonald, 19, both rear seat passengers,
died when they were unable to escape the burning wreck.

The driver and another passenger were treated for minor injuries at the Millmerran
Hospital while a third passenger was airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital suffering burns
to his chest and arms.

All five, members of the Goondiwindi Rugby Club, were travelling north to Toowoomba
for a tournament.

The driver has been issued with a notice to appear in the Millmerran Magistrates Court
on April 27.
