Fed: Police, coroner probe Kovco's death, PM vows no cover-up

New South Wales police and a coroner will investigate the shooting in Iraq of Australian
soldier Private JAKE KOVCO .. amid claims from his family of a cover-up over his death.

But the prime minister is promising there won't be any cover-up .. and a military inquiry
will establish the truth behind Australia's first military casualty in Iraq.

JOHN HOWARD's promise comes after the bungle in which Private KOVCO'S body was left
behind in Kuwait .. and another coffin taken to Australia.

The soldier's coffin is being flown to Sydney .. to be met by his family .. who've
been flown in by government VIP jet from Victoria.

When the body arrives in Sydney early this morning .. it will be go to the New South
Wales coroner .. JOHN ABERNETHY.
